What is a Homemaker?

What is exactly a homemaker? As you can tell the google search definition of homemaker barely even hits the surface. “A person, especially a housewife, who manages a home.” I agree this definition is slightly fitting to the purpose and intent of a homemaker. But what exactly does managing a home look like? Where does the strength and backbone of the so called homemaker, come from?

Though I am not managing a home for myself at this time, I soon plan to be in a year or so. What better thing can I do as a future wife other than learn to become good at managing my future home, right now?

Managing a home takes a great amount of responsibility. It’s more than having cute decor, a clean kitchen, no dirty dishes in the sink, laundry that’s perfectly folded and tidy, it’s more than a cute Instagram decor photo captioned #homemaker. No, Homemaking is a battlefield of routine and list after list. It’s a full time Job that takes persistent strength and hope in the one who holds my life and all of our lives, our Father in heaven.

Learning to be a good Homemaker and Wife have been something I’ve recently taken a great passion for. It’s one of God’s greatest designs as a woman. We as women have a deep desire to nurture, comfort and bring love to anything around us. To bring peace in every surrounding we own, wether that’s in a picture we hung on the wall, or a painting that’s waiting to dry. To bring love and honor to those living with us as well.

Serving one another is the most honor anyone can do for someone and for their own heart. To put one’s desire above their own is possibly the most loving action a person can do. Serving doesn’t mean you are disregarding your own needs and helping someone instead. It mean’s to help and lift the other person up just as it would be yourself; to prioritize others as they are yourself.

“I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” - Acts 20:35

Homemaking is a responsibility and takes endurance just as anything does. My confidence and hope is in God. In the center of it all it takes an active backbone of strength and a heart pursuing an active relationship with our God. Thinking about all of the things and weight i’ve carried before knowing God, I now see that it was God there all along, giving me the strength to do it.

Now that I know my heart and trust is in God and its an active commitment in my life, even though it can be a hassle at times. Seeking God and his truth and council everyday is the thing that helps my head and mind be centered. To have the tools to face the day, whatever the day has for me; rain or shine.

Homemaker: “A woman of God who puts her heart and hands in to managing her home, Her strength is not her own and she serves and lifts up others as if it was herself. She loves just as Christ loved us.”

Though I have lots to learn as a woman and homemaker, I enjoyed sharing my words and little piece of my story with you all. I look forward to learning more as I grow in to this stage of life and I’m glad you’re here to see it.

I know this definition will change as I learn but i’m proud of where i’ve come and what I will come to learn in the future. :)

Proverbs 31

“[3] A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.15 She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls.16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.19 In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.22 She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple.23 Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:29 "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.31 Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
